The practice and practitioners

The people who will look after you.

We have seven osteopaths, a homeopath and a practice manager. Each practitioner has their own style, so there is someone to suit you.

Registered and insured

All our practitioners are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council and are fully insured. They are required to keep updating their diagnostic and clinical skills through professional development courses and continuous study of the human body.

Osteopaths

Our osteopaths

Seven osteopaths, from classical and cranial to structural approaches.

Matthew Moat

Principal osteopath

Matthew Moat

BSc (Hons) OST DO AAF

Matthew is the principal of the practice and trained at the European School of Osteopathy. He graduated in 2007 and has since continued to enrich his practice with cranial, classical and biodynamic courses. Early in his career he was mentored by Quentin Shaw (particularly PGP/SPD) and Jonathon Hutson (cranial osteopathy). As a result, Matthew is trusted by many and has a loyal following, and his list has grown almost purely through word of mouth.

Matthew treats all sectors of the population, from the very young through to those with a few more miles on the clock. He has an excellent reputation with midwives and lactation consultants in Kent and East Sussex through his cranial osteopathy for babies and children. His broad experience includes people recovering after car accidents, long term headache sufferers and the management of complex medical conditions, as well as simple aches and pains. Matthew is now working with patients undergoing dental treatment and orthodontic support.

Loving a challenge, both inside and outside of work, Matthew takes a keen interest in stubborn cases where symptoms have shown limited recovery with other treatments. Outside of work this shows in his sport: he has completed triathlons, including a half Ironman, and most recently an ultra marathon in Snowdonia.

Maria Best

Osteopath

Maria Best

MOst

Maria is an experienced osteopath who trained at the European School of Osteopathy and graduated in 2012. She considers the whole of the body in her treatment and will help you to understand the cause of the pain. For instance, pain in your knee could be caused by an imbalance in your pelvis.

Maria is experienced in working with people of all ages and especially enjoys working with the very young and older people. She tailors her approach to the patient and is adept at both cranial and structural treatments. Her gentle, supportive approach combined with cranial techniques provides effective treatment for mothers and their babies.

A keen area of interest is working with people who have fibromyalgia, and helping women relieve the stresses and strains of pregnancy and after birth. In a previous life Maria was a German teacher and is also a keen knitter, so you never know what you might learn during your treatment.

Dwaine Ford

Osteopath

Dwaine Ford

BSc (Hons) Ost Med

Dwaine qualified as an osteopath from the Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007. He then completed a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University in 2016. He is a member of the Institute of Osteopathy and is registered to work with the General Osteopathic Council.

Dwaine treats a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders, including spinal, joint and tendon pain, for all ages and physiques, including elite sports people. The first priority with any patient is to reduce their immediate pain and then work towards a long term solution. He believes it is important for patients to understand their diagnosis so they can address why the injury occurred, which might involve small lifestyle changes or rehab exercises to rebalance the body.

Dwaine has a particular interest in treating sports injuries. He enjoys helping people recover from the initial acute injury and guiding them through rehabilitation to a return to sport, then building in strategies to prevent the injury returning. He has worked with elite athletes from a wide range of sports, from dance to football, including Milton Keynes Dons FC, Crawley FC and Heathfield and Waldron rugby club, carrying out injury assessment, rehabilitation and match day first aid.

Over the years Dwaine has become an expert in a number of treatments, including dry needling, kinesiology taping and shockwave therapy. He has found that a multi-disciplinary approach can often get better results.

Nikki Moat

Practice manager and breastfeeding support

Nikki Moat

Nikki has worked with the practice since 2017, and was quietly involved in the mechanics of the practice from 2007. She is the friendly face at the reception desk, or the one on hand to play with your little ones, should you wish. She has picked up a lot of osteopathic knowledge over the years and, while she is not an osteopath, can often advise you on the best practitioner to suit your needs. Nikki also looks after the accounts, social media, compliance and the general running of the clinic.

Nikki’s main passion is providing breastfeeding support to mums, weekly at the Moat Breastfeeding Support Group at Robertsbridge Youth Centre, and at the monthly healthy child clinics, alongside Health Visitors and Nursery nurses. She trained as an NHS Peer Supporter and has been mentored by lactation consultant (IBCLC) and former midwife Jane Gerard-Pearse. Nikki also supports the osteopaths in the clinic with infant feeding queries.
